khoran took me out to dinner for our last no-baby hoorah. when he asked me if we could do that before our little man comes into the world, i said of course. we’ve been relatively good about our going-out-to-eat habits as of late and we hadn’t been out for a little while.
we ‘decided’ to go to sbraga - a beautiful new restaurant opened by top chef, kevin sbraga. i say ‘decided’ because he gave me two choices and he knew i would choose the restaurant i did because i love top chef. we were enamored by everything when we walked in - the decor, the space, the food…oh, the food. the four course meal was our plan. we were going all out before we started spending all of our energy on being parents.
one, two courses down…and somewhere during or after the third course, kevin sbraga comes out to ask us how everything was, if we were enjoying ourselves and to tell us congratulations. on the baby, of course…or at least that’s what i assume.
and then…khoran pulls out a little white box, puts it on the table and gets down on both knees.
k: baby, i know you want to marry me, but will you please tell me you’ll marry me?
me: (‘oh my god’ was repeated about 12 times until i could finally get out an ‘of course!’ or something similar.)
i sit there shaking in complete disbelief for the next hour, with the biggest smile on my face, thinking: we’re starting a family and now i am going to spend the rest of my life with this man.
needless to say, 39 weeks was the best week yet. and now we play the waiting game to meet our little one.
